Who is a Good Candidate?
P
atients between the ages of 18 and 65 in good overall health can get a Botox® treatment. It’s an excellent solution for those who are looking for a non-surgical option to correct wrinkles or other health problems. Ideal candidates should also have realistic expectations about what a Botox® treatment can achieve.
It may not be safe for patients who fall under the following:
- Allergic to any component in Botox
- Has a skin infection
- Taking blood thinners
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
What to Expect
Most patients don’t feel discomfort during the procedure, but you’re welcome to ask the dentist about numbing options if you think you may need it. Afterward, they will inject small amounts of the botulinum toxin into the area of your choice. Many factors can determine how many injections you need.
Patients can usually return to their normal activities right after treatment, but it’s important to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for 24 hours. This will prevent the Botox® from spreading and impacting the treatment

Why an oral surgeon vs. dentist?
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons receive specialized training to treat a variety of conditions affecting the head, neck, face, mouth, and jaws. Although a general dentist may perform simple tooth extractions -- more complex surgeries, such as removing wisdom teeth, are what we are specifically trained to do. Plus, we have advanced equipment to make procedures more affordable, and significantly more comfortable, for you to have the best overall experience.
