Get Over That Underbite with Jaw Correction Surgery

If you’re experiencing chronic jaw pain, difficulty biting and swallowing, headaches, and even breathing problems, our experienced doctors may discuss the option of corrective jaw surgery with you. Jaw surgery, or orthognathic surgery, works to better align the upper and lower jaws. This not only improves the function of your teeth but also your overall facial appearance.

What Can Jaw Surgery Help With?

While orthodontics realigns individual teeth, orthognathic surgery restructures the jaw as a whole. Here are just some of the things corrective jaw surgery can help with:

  • Breathing disorders (sleep apnea)
  • Chronic jaw pain
  • Difficulty biting, chewing, or swallowing
  • Headaches
  • Open bite (upper and lower teeth remain apart when jaws are closed)
  • Protruding jaw
  • Recessed jaw
  • Recessed, protruding, or asymmetric chin
  • Speech problems

Is Jaw Surgery Right for Me?

Jaw surgery may be the option for you if you struggle with a misaligned bite. Sometimes, the upper and lower jaws can develop at different rates, impacting chewing function, speech, and overall oral health and appearance. Sudden injuries can also impact jaw alignment, and repositioning them is easy with jaw realignment surgery.

When it comes to jaw surgery, our first priority is making sure you feel confident in your choices by educating you on all the treatment options available. Our doctors will walk you through the process and answer any questions, ensuring any lingering anxiety around the procedure will be laid to rest long before treatment begins.

Orthognathic surgeries are also offered exclusively at attending hospitals, where you’ll still be in the familiar and capable hands of Aspire’s oral surgeons.
